A highly classified weekend

Operation
Red Rocks

A little music. A lot of mountains. One very important question.

September 10–13, 2026Colorado
The plan
Mission briefing

Four days.
Sixteen surprises.
One secret.

Jos knows about the Sofi Tukker show at Red Rocks. She does not know about the proposal—and she definitely does not know that the people she loves are waiting in Colorado to celebrate it with her.

6,450 feet above sea level

Pack for sunshine.
Dress for starlight.

Mid-September days at Red Rocks are warm and sunny, but the temperature drops quickly after sunset—into the mid to high 40s. That is true every night, not just show night.

01Something warm for the show.
02Layers for the hikes. Cold at the trailhead, hot by 10:00 AM.
03Hiking shoes.

The surprise.

7:30 PM
onward
Everyone

Dance.

~10:00–
10:30 PM
Everyone

Show ends.

Late
Everyone

Back to the Airbnb. Everyone tells Jos when they found out.

The point is that Jos gets sixteen separate moments instead of one blur.

Come over in ones and twos, spaced a few minutes apart over the first half hour of the show. Y'all decide the order amongst yourselves. Hug her, congratulate her, then give the next person room. If someone's stuck in a bathroom or merch line, no panic—come whenever you get there.

Venue notes

  • Golden Lion is Premium Reserved rows 2 to 4, but Scott and Jos are giving those seats up and coming into GA.
  • Bag policy is strict and the lines are long. Travel light and get there before doors.
  • Passenger pickup after the show is the Jurassic Lot near Entrance 2, via the Will Call Trail across from the Trading Post.

The energy

Keep the surprise loose, warm, and human. There is no perfect entrance. The whole point is for the night to keep unfolding.

Day two

Friday

Lair o' the Bear Park

22550 CO-74, Idledale · ~15 minutes west

Flat, well-marked creekside trails with a running creek, footbridges, and beaver dams. Genuinely pretty, zero suffering, and works for every fitness level. Parking fills up, so 2:30 arrival is about right. Open until 7:30 PM.

Trading Post Trail

Red Rocks · 1.4 miles · ~250 ft gain

A 45-minute to one-hour loop around the amphitheatre with a few short stair sections. There is a nice symmetry to bringing Jos back in daylight to walk the loop with everyone the day after. On a non-event day, the park stays open until an hour after sunset.

Day three

Mount Falcon Park.

5:00 PM

Grocery run if it hasn't happened. Everyone cooks.

7:30 PM
Everyone

Dinner at the Airbnb. Long table, nowhere to be.

East Trailhead

3852 Vine St, Morrison · The hard version

Roughly 7–8 miles round trip with about 1,700 feet of gain, most of it in the first three miles. Castle Trail up, optional out-and-back to Walker's Dream and the Summer White House ruins, then on to the Walker mansion ruins. Panoramic views the whole way, including Red Rocks below. Both lots fill by mid-morning. Open 5:00 AM–8:00 PM.

Choose your own altitude

West Trailhead gets you to the same ruins with far less climbing.

Turkey Trot Loop from the East Trailhead is about a 5K if people want to split off partway.

Very little shade on any of it. Sunscreen, hats, and more water than you think.

Day four

Sunday
Out

8:00–10:00
AM
Everyone

Breakfast, coffee, pack.

10:00 AM
Everyone

Strip beds, load the dishwasher, gather trash.

11:00 AM
Everyone

Hard checkout.

After
Everyone

Airport runs. Denver International is about 45 minutes from Wheat Ridge without traffic. Build in buffer.

One last Colorado breakfast?

If anyone has a late flight: The Cow An Eatery in Morrison opens at 7:00 AM, and Atomic Cowboy / Denver Biscuit Co in Golden opens at 8:00.

End of operation

See you
under the rocks.
